Egúngún is the Yoruba masquerade through which the ancestors return — costumes built from panels and hanging strands that conceal the wearer entirely so that someone else may appear. The reference is held with respect here: an exaggerated squared shoulder, a notched V neck, a straight shift body in orange and indigo resist-dyed cotton, and a deep black fringe curtain falling from the hip to mid-calf. It moves before the wearer does.
